History of the Dream SMP encompasses the past developments of members of the Dream SMP. Dream, GeorgeNotFound, and Sapnap first joined the SMP on April 24, 2020, followed shortly afterwards by other members such as TommyInnit. Their conflicts and early builds, such as the Disc War and Community House, laid the groundwork for later developments.
Wilbur Soot founded a drug business on July 12, 2020, but its failure prompted Wilbur to create the nation of L'Manberg. The L'Manberg War of Independence created a new nation that would be the center of server events until its destruction on January 6, 2021. After its dissolution, other factions began to dominate, including Snowchester, Badlands, and the Syndicate.
Starting in late January, the Badlands have increasingly gained power after forming a coalition around the Blood Vines, a strange growth of red vines around the server from an egg-like structure. As there is still tension between factions, especially from the anarchist Syndicate and the potential for reviving dead members, factions and individuals are developing their own plans for server domination and defense.
The beginning of the Dream SMP[]
- New members: Dream, GeorgeNotFound, Sapnap, Callahan, ItsAlyssa, awesamdude, Ponk, BadBoyHalo
On April 24, 2020, Dream, George, and Sapnap first joined the Dream SMP, followed by several other members. From April to June, the members focused on slowly progressing in the game. The members created several builds, including the beginnings of the Prime Path, the community Nether hub, the Community House, the Courthouse, and Ponk's lemon tree and first giant lemon tree.
During this time, Dream tamed a horse named "Spirit" and kept its leather after its death in May.[1] While building the Community House, George also named two fish "Beckerson" and "Mars".
Very little conflict existed. However, after Ponk pranked George by trapping his base, George burnt down both of Ponk's lemon trees on June 30, 2020.[2]
Arrival of conflict[]
- New members: TommyInnit, Tubbo, Purpled, Punz, Fundy, Wilbur Soot
Tommy joined the server on July 4, 2020 and quickly started conflict between himself, Dream, and George by attacking George repeatedly and claiming others' builds as his own. He settled near Ponk, who had built his second giant lemon tree, on a hill. The other new members also began building their bases.
Disc War[]
On July 9, 2020, after Sapnap burned down Ponk's second lemon tree, he allied with Tommy against Ponk and Alyssa. Dream attempted to intervene, but was stopped by Tommy. In retaliation, Dream stole Tommy's two prized music discs "cat" and "mellohi". Although Tommy, Sapnap, and Tubbo were able to retrieve the discs, Dream found them by digging under Tommy's base and took them.
Tommy and Tubbo confronted Dream twice in attempts to trade for the discs. Both Dream and Tommy scammed each other the first time, with Tommy retrieving counterfeits of his discs. After the successful second trade, Dream chased Tommy as he and Tubbo raced to create an ender chest to put the discs in. Although Tommy and Tubbo succeeded, the Disc War established tension between Dream and Tommy that would lead to several conflicts known collectively as the Disc Saga.
Socializing Club conflict[]
Conflict between Fundy, Tubbo, and Purpled began on July 11, 2020, after Fundy attempted to prank both Tubbo and Purpled. They attempted to resolve the dispute peacefully in the Socializing Club, but the unspoken motives of each member prevented them from reaching an agreement. Tommy also intervened and attacked Purpled during a fight, and all four members left without reaching any agreements.
Drug empire[]
Wilbur Soot joined the server on July 24, 2020 and established a drug business in a caravan called the "camarvan". He recruited Tommy and they planned to take over the economy by stealing people's potion-brewing materials, thereby creating a demand for potions that only they could supply. However, while attempting to take Tubbo's items, Sapnap stepped in and called the camarvan and Wilbur and Tommy's dealings illegal. Wilbur and Tommy attempted to use Fundy as a witness to make themselves look innocent and evade punishment, but Sapnap, Tubbo, Purpled, Ponk, and Eret demanded that the case be taken to the Courthouse. Although Eret defected to the camarvan's side and Wilbur successfully convinced Tubbo that he and Tommy were innocent, Sapnap, Purpled, and Ponk (none of whom are European) continued to pursue the case, forcing Wilbur to drop the idea of a drug empire.
L'Manberg era[]
New members: JackManifoldTV, Niki Nihachu

The original members of L'Manberg (who signed the first Declaration of Independance) on top of the Camarvan.
On July 29, 2020, Wilbur decided to establish an independent server within the Dream SMP. Due to the fact that his opposition for the drug empire came from non-Europeans, Wilbur decreed that the server would be a safe, free space for Europeans to do what they liked. He quickly recruited Tommy and Tubbo. Dream visited briefly and stated that if L'Manberg remained part of the Dream SMP server, it would not be attacked and Tommy's base could be the L'Manberg embassy.
After recruiting Eret, Wilbur wrote the (deliberately misspelled) Declaration of Independance, despite Dream's earlier warning. He also recruited Fundy after Fundy spawned within L'Manberg's walls and called Fundy his son. Shortly afterwards, the Greater Dream SMP delivered a Declaration of War.

Preparations[]

Eret's blackstone walls and the Greater Dream SMP's cobblestone walls around L'Manberg.
From July 30 to August 1, 2020, both sides gathered resources. Eret built tall blackstone walls around L'Manberg and Tubbo grinded for resources. Meanwhile, the Greater Dream SMP griefed the area around L'Manberg. Dream then sent L'Manberg a video message, in which he gave his famous war speech.
Before the war began on July 2, 2020, the Greater Dream SMP side attacked Tommy and Tubbo multiple times, stealing all of Tubbo's resources.
Tower Skirmish[]
After Tommy and Tubbo returned to L'Manberg, Wilbur joined the server. He attempted to negotiate with the Greater Dream SMP before they agreed to meet at the L'Manberg embassy (Tommy's base). At first, the L'Manbergians were forced to take shelter in Tommy's base, but after a brief fight, Dream ordered the other side to retreat to Ponk's tower. In exchange, the L'Manbergians ran to Punz's tower. Due to having the upper ground, L'Manberg won the Tower Skirmish.
Final Control Room[]
After leading the L'Manbergians back to the nation, Eret revealed his Final Control Room, which he claimed had more supplies. This, however, was a trap that allowed the Greater Dream SMP to kill all the L'Manbergians (except Eret). While in the Final Control Room, Eret said his famous line:
"Down with the revolution, boys. It was never meant to be."
TNT trap[]
Despite losing all of their best armor and tools, Wilbur decided to negotiate for freedom rather than surrender. Dream disagreed and issued an ultimatum: if L'Manberg did not surrender, then he would blow it up. The L'Manbergians refused, and Wilbur delivered his famous "independence or death" speech, stating:
"Independence or death. If we get no revolution, then we want nothing. We would rather die than give in to you and join your SMP."
Due to Eret planting TNT throughout L'Manberg before the war, however, the TNT blew up most of L'Manberg, including part of the camarvan. Wilbur decided to surrender, but Tommy challenged Dream to a half-heart bow duel instead.
Half-heart bow duel[]

Tommy and Dream duel on the Prime Path.
Both Tommy and Dream agreed to the duel. If Tommy won, L'Manberg would be granted independence as a nation, but would still be considered part of the Dream SMP server. If Dream won, L'Manberg would be dissolved and Tommy would give Dream the "mellohi" disc. Wilbur disapproved of the duel, but he counted them to ten paces. After a few seconds of fire, Dream won the duel.
Resolution[]
After losing the duel, Tommy gave both of his discs ("cat" and "mellohi") in exchange for L'Manberg's independence. L'Manberg became an independent nation and Wilbur wrote a new Declaration of Independence. Wilbur became president of L'Manberg. Eret was crowned king of the Greater Dream SMP.

Manberg era[]
New members: Technoblade, Ph1LzA
Following the civil conflicts, Wilbur decided to host an election to consolidate his own power as president. He and Tommy planned an election where they would be the only party on the ballot. However, Quackity announced his own presidential run as SWAG2020 with George as his running mate, forcing Wilbur and Tommy to name themselves POG2020 and start a presidential campaign.
Electoral fallout[]
Electoral debate[]
On September 8, 2020, POG2020 and SWAG2020 held a presidential and vice presidential debate in the sky courthouse. During the debate, they argued over people allowed in L'Manberg, the pet conflict, taxes, and corruption. However, it soon devolved into bribery allegations and character attacks, and POG2020 stormed out of the courthouse.
Election rally[]
On September 20, 2020, the two parties held a rally just outside L'Manberg's walls to speak and announced their sponsors. SWAG2020 did not have any official sponsors and George did not show up, causing Quackity to panic. Fundy and Niki then announced Coconut2020, a new party that Wilbur was forced to put on the ballot. While POG2020 had Vikkstar123 endorse them, their second endorsement from Jschlatt backfired with Schlatt announcing his own Schlatt2020 presidential campaign.
After the failed rally, POG2020 attempted to form a coalition party with SWAG2020, but Quackity opted to form a coalition party with Schlatt2020 instead.
Election results[]
On September 22, 2020, Wilbur announced the winner of the election. Of the 250,000 votes, Coconut2020 received 9%, Schlatt2020 received 16%, SWAG2020 received 30%, and POG2020 received 45%. However, the coalition party of SWAG2020 and Schlatt2020 received 46% of the vote, and Schlatt and Quackity became the president and vice president of L'Manberg, respectively.
During his first presidential speech, Schlatt exiled Wilbur and Tommy from L'Manberg. Shortly afterwards, he issued several other decrees, including renaming the nation to "Manberg", changing the flag, and taking down the blackstone walls.
Pogtopia[]
Prior to the election results, Wilbur and Tommy planned to reside in a cabin in the woods peacefully when they lost. However, this was quickly complicated when they were exiled and when Tubbo was asked to stay in the Manberg administration as Schlatt's right-hand man. Confused and angry, Wilbur and Tommy planned to begin an underground resistance movement instead, which they called Pogtopia. They recruited the adamant anarchist Technoblade, although Wilbur was hesitant at first due to Technoblade being American.
During this time, Manberg enforced taxes and repressed criticism, making the Schlatt Administration unpopular. Tension between Schlatt and Quackity also grew due to Schlatt refusing to acknowledge Quackity's opinions as vice president. Due to this, Pogtopia quickly gained allies, including Tubbo, who worked as a spy. However, Wilbur experienced a psychotic break shortly after Pogtopia recruited Techno, explaining that he and Tommy were the villains because they were working to overthrow a democratically-elected government. He began working towards the destruction of L'Manberg rather than its political takeover, which was supported by both Techno and Dream.
Manberg Festival[]

During the Manberg Festival, right before Tubbo's execution by Techno.
The Schlatt Administration announced the Manberg Festival (also known as the Red Festival), a festival to celebrate democracy and the new government, on October 8, 2021. The festival was set for October 16. To everyone's surprise, Techno was invited. Tubbo was also invited to give the opening speech. As part of his now-formed TNT plot, Wilbur placed TNT beneath Manberg and gave Tubbo the code phrase; if Tubbo included it in his speech, Wilbur would detonate the TNT. However, right after giving his speech, Tubbo was restrained by Schlatt and exposed as a spy for Pogtopia. Techno was then called onto the stage and pressured into killing Tubbo with a firework rocket, after which he began to murder other festival attendees. Meanwhile, Wilbur searched for the detonation chamber he had built, but failed to find it. In the aftermath, Wilbur briefly attempted to turn himself in to defend Niki from Schlatt's persecution before being forced to flee.
Manberg-Pogtopia War[]
After the Manberg Festival, tensions grew in Manberg. More people defected, most notably Quackity after killing Schlatt out of frustration on October 17. Although Wilbur was not swayed from his TNT plot, Techno provided all the Pogtopians with gear and led them into battle against Manberg (Schlatt, Dream, Greater Dream SMP allies, and Karl Jacobs). Manberg quickly surrendered, and Dream led the Pogtopians to the Camarvan, where Schlatt was drinking. Schlatt accused everyone of betraying him before dying of a heart attack.
Wilbur quickly announced that Tommy would be the next president of Manberg. However, Tommy only changed the name back to L'Manberg before returning the presidency to Wilbur, claiming that he had unfinished business with Dream. After changing the L'Manberg flag back, Wilbur, too, resigned and handed the presidency to Tubbo. During Tubbo's presidential speech, Wilbur headed into the detonation room, stating that he would still be continuing with his TNT plot.
Following Tubbo's speech, Techno, feeling betrayed due to his anarchist values, began to attack the other members with the Greater Dream SMP. Wilbur also detonated the TNT after Philza joined the server for the first time in a failed attempt to convince him. In the remaining destruction, Wilbur was killed upon his own request by Phil, while Techno spawned two withers that terrorized L'Manberg briefly.
The Manberg-Pogtopia War reinstated L'Manberg with Tubbo as president and Tommy as vice president, but forced its members to rebuild with nothing but tension with the Greater Dream SMP and Techno.
