The Sleepy Bois Inc Wiki follows Wikipedia's Manual of Style.

Below are some guidelines summarized from the Manual as well as some guidelines specific to the Wiki. Don't be too worried about following every detail on this page because these are only guidelines!

General editing

Basics

  • Only write facts. Do not include personal headcanons, theories, or other opinions, especially when writing about SMP characters.
  • Include references whenever possible (Wikipedia's format). Re-uploaded VODs and Twitch clips are preferred.
  • Write formally; pay attention to grammar and do not use contractions.

Spelling and grammar

Follow American English conventions.

Example: "color" rather than "colour".

For spelling and grammar that is Minecraft-specific, check the Official Minecraft Wiki.

Example: In sentences, "Hardcore" in "Hardcore mode" is capitalized.

For spelling that is server-specific, check the server's wiki.

Example: SMPEarth and SMPLive have no space after "SMP".

Capitalization

Only capitalize proper nouns.

Example: Wilbur Soot was the president of L'Manberg.

In articles: Titles are capitalized. In headings, only the first word is capitalized (unless the heading includes a proper noun).

Example: The article "Funniest Minecraft Mod Videos" has a section titled "Proximity mod".

Quotations and punctuation

Punctuation lies outside of quotations unless the quote ends with a punctuation mark.

Example: Wilbur Soot, also known as "Wilby Scoot", is a 23-year-old man partaking in Cumin Squad.

Example: Wilbur Soot stated that he would change his YouTube bio to "you can kill the pee dog, but you can't kill the dog pee."

When quoting inside of quotations, use single quotes (' ') rater than regular quotes (" ").

Example: Wilbur stated, "I released 'Your New Boyfriend' yesterday. Go listen to it."

When quoting long blocks of text (more than a sentence), use the "block quote" format.

Numbers

Dates are written in the Month DD, YYYY format, except in tables.

Example: January 16, 2020

Example in tables: 16 January 2020

Links

Each link is only used once in an article. Tables, "see also:"s, and "main article:"s are exempt from this rule, and include links whenever possible.

Remember to differentiate between the streamer and the character when linking.

Images

If in place of an infobox, images should be 300px wide.

Example: The Editor Wilbur picture on the Editor Wilbur ARG page.

If supplementing an article, images should be 200px wide.

Characters

The first time a character is mentioned in an article, write their full name and include a link to their page (if applicable). Afterwards, only refer to them by their nickname. Tables are exempt from this rule.

Example: In an article about Technoblade, I would only call him "Technoblade" once. Afterwards, I would say "Techno".

Streamer vs. character

Please remember that characters do not equal the streamers that play them, especially when linking pages.

Example: In an article about Wilbur Soot's songs, I would link Wilbur Soot the person.

Example: In an article about L'Manberg, I would link Wilbur Soot the character.

Files

Naming

Files should have appropriate titles: only the first word and proper nouns should be capitalized.

Example: Wilbur Soot skin.png

Example: You Laugh You Lose.png

Descriptions

When applicable, write a short, concise description for files you upload. Do not just repeat the file name in the description.

Example: The description of "Wilbur Soot skin.png" would be "Wilbur Soot's default skin."

Example: The description of "You Laugh You Lose.png" would be "Uploaded by Wilbur Soot on January 12, 2019".
