The L'Manberg War of Independence, also known as the L'Manberg Revolutionary War, was an armed conflict between L'Manberg and the Greater Dream SMP over L'Manberg's independence. War was officially declared on July 29, 2020 and ended on August 2, 2020 with a negotiated independence.
L'Manberg revolutionary movement originated from Wilbur Soot's failed drug business on July 25, 2020. Wilbur's attempts to expand his business were stopped by several American members of the server, who demanded to take the business and its members, including TommyInnit, to court. Frustrated by what he considered unlawful intervention, Wilbur founded L'Manberg as a safe space for Europeans.
When Wilbur and several others declared L'Manberg's independence, the Greater Dream SMP responded with the Declaration of War. Fighting took place on August 2, 2020 within L'Manberg and nearby areas, including the L'Manberg Embassy. Militarily, the Greater Dream SMP held the upper hand with superior armor, weapons, and potions. Nonetheless, L'Manberg succeeded in achieving independence after Tommy gave Dream his two prized music discs in exchange. Both sides claimed victory, as L'Manberg was only granted technical independence.

American intervention[]
Wilbur established a drug (potion) business on July 25, 2020 with Tommy. They planned to increase scarcity to raise demand of potions by scamming members of their potion-brewing materials. The business quickly came under the scrutiny of Americans, and although several members joined the business during the ensuing scuffle, the business failed. Wilbur then decided to found a server where Europeans could do what they wanted without facing what he considered unlawful American intervention.
Break from the Greater Dream SMP[]

L'Manberg declares independence while witnessed by the Greater Dream SMP.
Shortly after declaring the formation of L'Manberg, Wilbur officially showed the server to Dream. He claimed that the Greater Dream SMP promoted tyranny, and that only whitelisted Europeans would be allowed inside L'Manberg. The two agreed to exchange embassies.
However, while L'Manberg was establishing its borders, members of the Greater Dream SMP attacked Tommy and Tubbo, prompting Wilbur to immediately write the (deliberately misspelled) Declaration of Independance. The Declaration condemned the tyranny of the Greater Dream SMP and declared that L'Manberg would stand for "life, liberty, and the pursuit of victory". Right after signing the reading the Declaration, Wilbur received a Declaration of War from the Greater Dream SMP.
Conflict[]
Early engagements[]

The Greater Dream SMP traps Tommy and Tubbo on the Power Tower.
The first encounters occurred early on August 2, 2020. Dream, GeorgeNotFound, and Sapnap of the Greater Dream SMP repeatedly attacked Tubbo at his distant jungle base, where Tubbo had been gathering resources for the coming war. Tubbo was forced to flee on the Nether roof without most of the resources. Tubbo and Tommy then planned to trap the Greater Dream SMP on top of the Power Tower, as they believed the Nether portal there was the only exit from the Nether roof. Unbeknownst to them, a separate exit existed, and the Greater Dream SMP trapped Tubbo and Tommy on the Power Tower. After a brief fight, the two of them fled back to L'Manberg.
Tower Skirmish[]
Although the L'Manbergians were at a disadvantage, Wilbur was able to negotiate to meet the Greater Dream SMP at the L'Manberg Embassy. He then gave Tommy control of the L'Manberg army, which Tommy dubbed the Fifth Battalion. At the L'Manberg Embassy, further negotiation was stalled when the Greater Dream SMP lit TNT and exploded a large part of the land outside the embassy. The battalion was forced to take cover inside. Tommy ordered the battalion to head into the sewers, but Wilbur overrode him and ordered the battalion back outside. There, the two sides exchanged fire before Dream ordered the Greater Dream SMP to retreat towards Ponk's Tower.
Tommy, refusing to give the enemy the upper ground, ordered the battalion to Punz's Tower, which was roughly the same height. As the Greater Dream SMP did not climb Ponk's Tower, the battalion had the higher ground and were able to fire on the enemy freely. The Greater Dream SMP then retreated.
The battalion attributed the triumph to their tactical skills, and the win greatly increased their morale.
Final Control Room[]

Eret leads the battalion into the Final Control Room.
Following the Greater Dream SMP's retreat, Eret led the battalion back to L'Manberg. He claimed that he had stockpiled other resources for the war. As the battalion were buoyed on their recent success, everyone followed Eret into the hillside without storing their weapons or armor. Eret led them into the Final Control Room, a small blackstone room with chests and a button. As the battalion filed inside, the walls opened to reveal the Greater Dream SMP. All of the L'Manbergians, except Eret, were killed and lost all of their gear. Eret then said his famous line:
"Down with the revolution, boys. It was never meant to be."
While the two sides had been preparing for war, Eret had agreed to betray L'Manberg in exchange for becoming king of the Greater Dream SMP. He had created a redstone mechanism to trap the battalion inside the Final Control Room and had placed TNT under L'Manberg.[2] He refrained from engaging in the rest of the war, although he spectated.
TNT trap[]

The Greater Dream SMP set off explosions within L'Manberg.
Shocked by Eret's betrayal, the battalion regrouped inside the Camarvan. L'Manberg had few resources remaining, but Wilbur refused to surrender. He met with Dream by the L'Manberg Embassy to negotiate for L'Manberg's independence, asking for peace and independence rather than continued fighting. However, Dream gave Wilbur an ultimatum: if L'Manberg did not surrender, he would explode all of L'Manberg's land. The two sides gathered by L'Manberg and Dream placed a piece of TNT inside, threatening to light it.
Wilbur did not believe that Dream had the capacity to explode all of L'Manberg, and he gathered with the battalion to give his famous speech:
"Independence or death. If we get no revolution, then we want nothing. We would rather die than give in to you and join your SMP."
Dream lit the TNT. Instead of only causing a small explosion, as the battalion had expected, it set off a chain of explosions that destroyed much of L'Manberg's land as well as part of the Camarvan. Tommy then led the battalion into an escape tunnel he had built beneath the Camarvan, which led to an obsidian bunker. Tommy and Tubbo attempted to plan what L'Manberg should do next, but Wilbur decided to surrender, claiming that he would be a bad general if he allowed fighting to continue. He brought Tommy to negotiate surrender and warned Tommy to not challenge Dream.
Half-heart bow duel[]

Tommy and Dream duel for L'Manberg's independence.
During surrender negotiations, Dream insulted L'Manberg's military capability. Tommy then ignored Wilbur's warning and challenged Dream to a one-on-one half-heart bow duel to determine L'Manberg's independence. Tommy and Dream agreed to duel on a flat section of the Prime Path. If Tommy won, L'Manberg would be granted independence as a nation, but would still be a part of the Dream SMP server. If Dream won, the Dream SMP would reclaim L'Manberg's land and Tommy would give Dream one of his two prized music discs, "mellohi". Wilbur counted them to ten paces. Dream won the duel.
Negotiations[]
Tommy continued negotiating with Dream while the rest of the battalion retreated to L'Manberg. Soon after, he declared that he had secured L'Manberg's independence and ended the war by giving both of his discs to Dream. Wilbur then wrote a second Declaration of Independence.
Both sides claimed victory. L'Manberg claimed that it won because it gained independence from the Greater Dream SMP; the Greater Dream SMP claimed that it won because L'Manberg remained part of the Dream SMP rather than became a separate server.
Aftermath[]
Wilbur became the first president of L'Manberg. He made Tommy the treasurer of the state and Tubbo the secretary of the state. He also banned Eret from entering L'Manberg in the future.

The citizens of L'Manberg during the Soot Administration.
Under the Soot Administration, only Europeans were allowed into L'Manberg. Despite this, both Jack Manifold and Niki Nihachu joined L'Manberg shortly after the war, and the nation continued to prosper until later civil conflicts. L'Manberg continued to be central to the Dream SMP as it dealt with the Pet War and the Election of 2020. L'Manberg's successful War of Independence also inspired other factions, such as the Badlands, to declare independence from the Dream SMP.
