Maybe I Was Boring is the first EP by Wilbur Soot. It was released on December 25, 2019 on Bandcamp and features four songs that were cut from his album Your City Gave Me Asthma. Like the album, Maybe I Was Boring explores Wilbur's hatred of London, past love interests, and insecurities.
Wilbur has uploaded the album to Bandcamp and uploaded the album as one song to Spotify.
Background[]
Wilbur wrote about his reason to include these four songs in a separate EP on the Bandcamp page:
"a bunch of songs that weren't good enough or didn't fit the vibe of the ep. my favourite being 'Maybe I Was Boring' so i named this little single after it.
"the album art is me on the floor"
He most recently performed the songs "Maybe I Was Boring" and "It's All Futile! It's All Pointless!" on stream on July 13, 2021 for the anniversary of his album, Your City Gave Me Asthma.[1]
Music and lyrics[]
- Note: "Wilbur" in this section refers to the singer in the songs, not Wilbur the content creator.
"Maybe I Was Boring"[]
"Maybe I Was Boring" is about a girl who does not love her partner but has not ended the relationship. She sings about how nothing with her partner feels special anymore and how she is afraid that he will not want to end the relationship. The title presumably refers to Wilbur after his partner has ended the relationship.
"For Memories"[]
"For Memories" features Wilbur singing about a past relationship. He sings how he does not regret that the relationship happened, but that he will miss his partner.
"White Wine In A Wetherspoons"[]
"White Wine In A Wetherspoons" follows Wilbur as he goes into a Wetherspoons, a pub. Wilbur drinks and participates in bar fights before leaving the bar. The song examines quality of life in London, as Wilbur sings about how nothing ever changes and about the worker strikes preventing him from getting home.
"It's All Futile! It's All Pointless!"[]
"It's All Futile! It's All Pointless!" describes a young relationship where the girl wants a more romantic relationship while Wilbur, lamenting the naïve love they used to have, prepares to live up to societal norms by earning money, getting married, and raising children. It was also later re-recorded and released with his band Lovejoy on the Pebble Brain album, released October 14 2021.
