SMPEarth was a private, whitelisted Minecraft survival server played on by various creators. The map was a 1:2000 scale replica of Earth with plugins that enabled factions and various technologies (including planes). The server was created by Chip with the help of Wilbur Soot and JoshA20. It launched on November 22, 2019 and ended on April 11, 2020, after which it was opened to the public. It drew inspiration from SMPLive (which was approaching the end of its lifecycle) and /int/craft (a geopolitical roleplaying Minecraft server founded by users of 4chan's /int/ board in 2015).[1][1]
Like SMPLive, content creators were only allowed to play on the server while streaming. However, SMPEarth included over 60 streamers of varying sizes, including Technoblade, Ph1LzA, and TommyInnit. SMPEarth also focused more on lore, with a history of wars and alliances developing after several events and conflicts.
SMP members[]
Over 60 content creators were involved with SMPEarth, with many from SMPLive. In order to join, applicants must have known a member and had other creators vouch for them.
Members included: Wilbur, Phil, Techno, Tommy, AntVenom, ArlusFinch, Bitzel, CallMeCarson, CaptainSparklez, ConnorEatsPants, Cxlvxn, Eret, FitMC, GrunksPromise, JunkyJanker, King Burren, LukeOrSomething, Michaelmcchill, Purpled, Quackity, Slimecicle, SootCharlie, Sylvee, JackManifoldTV, TimeDeo, Traves, Tubbo, VoiceOverPete, and more. Many creators involved with the Dream SMP met in SMPEarth, and SMPEarth was also where Tommy first met the other Sleepy Bois.
History[]
After the server's launch on November 22, 2019, the players began creating different factions. These factions quickly paved the way to alliances and wars. For example, Wilbur created the faction of Newfoundland, and GrunksPromise from Spain accepted two hits on Wilbur soon after. After killing Wilbur twice, the two narrowly avoided sparking a war between their two factions. Techno and Phil had also created the Antarctic Empire, which quickly became a leading power on the server, while Tommy established Business Bay.
Saint-Malo Trials[]

On Day 8, the Antarctic Empire (Techno, Phil, and VoiceOverPete) exploited a loophole in the server's faction claiming system in order to claim the majority of the map. While they were claiming the world, ArlusFinch joined the faction.
Afterwards, the server hosted the Saint-Malo Trials, where Wilbur acted as judge and executioner and various other streamers acted as the jury. Arlus betrayed the Antarctic Empire, giving the other members a longer sentence in exchange for avoiding punishment, while Techno, Phil, and Pete refused to comply with Wilbur's demands. Following the trials, however, the Antarctic Empire was forced to remove its claim on the world and open up the stronghold, which was the faction home.
The Great SMPEarth War[]

Battle of the Bridges and Battle of the Pit[]
The Great SMPEarth War centered on conflicts between the Antarctic Empire and Business Bay. It started on December 7, 2019, when Tommy accepted a hit on Phil. After the failed assassination, the two sides (with the Antarctic Empire allying with Wilbur's Newfoundland) began attacking each others' bridges, an event known as the Battle of the Bridges. The conflict continued until December 18, 2019, when the Antarctic Empire forced Business Bay to sign the Treaty of the Pit after the decisive Battle of the Pit.
Port-aux-Offensive[]
On January 18, 2020, members of Business Bay, including Tommy, Bitzel, LukeOrSomething, and TimeDeo, infiltrated the Antarctic Empire's base in an attempt to regain the goods they had lost in previous Great SMPEarth War conflicts. This began a lengthy battle that resulted in several deaths (mostly on Business Bay's side) and the death of Techno's dog, Floof. After the Antarctic Empire successfully forced the members of Business Bay away from their territory, the Empire demanded reparations in goods or cash, and Business Bay eventually complied.
Current status[]
After ending on April 11, 2020, SMPEarth was opened to the public. The SMPEarth website has more information on how to join and world maps.
Trivia[]
- SMPEarth was originally called "ProjectEarth Live" and "EarthSMP".
- SMPEarth used the paid version of the plugin VehiclesPlus in order to add planes.[2]
- Wilbur originally wanted SMPEarth to have a scripted storyline. Although the server did have lore, Wilbur only achieved this goal with the Dream SMP.
- One of Techno's nicknames, "Technoplane", originated in SMPEarth.
- SMPEarth's main creator, fractalcounty, re-published a personal retrospective blog post titled The Genesis of SMPEarth on their personal website that outlines various details about the server's early development, such as behind-the-scenes conflicts surrounding server hosting, reflections on community management, and monetization headaches that were previously unknown to the public.[1]
